  • Executive Assistant to President | Ambassador of Fun at Columbia Sportswear
    Jun 2010 - Jun 2017 · 7 yrs 1 mo

Anyone who has been an assistant or had an assistant knows it's hard to enumerate all the things that are a part of this job. I do all the standard tasks associated with an Executive Assistant like calendaring, expense reports, travel, creating presentations, etc. But it's also so much more than that. I am the right hand to my boss, helping him think through decisions, being someone he can trust with the most confidential information, and thinking of things that will help him do his job before he asks for them. I work closely with his team of Brand Presidents and SVPs to make sure he is getting the information he needs and to follow up on delegated tasks. I also work with an amazing team of Executive Assistants who make all of that so much easier and more fun. In January 2015 I also took on the role of Ambassador of Fun, which entails running our Employee Activities program. The program consists of weekly fun events, a volleyball league, many sponsored sports teams, summer and winter adventure trips, special events (5K race, Ski Fair, Holiday Fair), and more. It's been a challenge to balance my time between the two different roles but it has been very rewarding as well. Fun is a big part of the culture at Columbia Sportswear Company and it's a great connector of people. It is a pleasure to plan and execute events that allow people to connect face to face instead of over email, and I, along with the leadership team and my boss, believe it makes a big difference in the way people work together and the culture that grows at a company. This secondary role has greatly expanded my event planning experience and grown my skills as a decision maker.
