• First-Class Marine Biology degree • Experience teaching in schools and nature reserves. • Benthic, intertidal and SCUBA-based ecological surveying • Protected species survey experience (bat & badger surveys) • Species identification skills: UK wildflowers, mosses, birds, cetaceans, bats and butterflies • Skilled in habitat assessment, biodiversity monitoring and ecological field sampling • Statistical analysis and mapping in R, Excel and developing GIS skills in QGIS • Experience using GPS equipment • SCUBA-certified and experience in SCUBA based surveying + Boat Handling experience • Laboratory skills: microscopy, DNA extraction, protein assays and aseptic technique • Strong scientific reporting, data handling & health and safety protocol compliance • Excellent communication, presentation skills & team leadership • Full clean UK driving licence • Lifesaving for Teachers Award/ first aid experience • Volunteer experience in education with WWT, habitat conservation with Leigh Ornithological Society, bat surveying with the South Lancashire Bat Group and badger surveying with Urban Green. • National-level Masters swimmer with snorkelling experience. • Interest in Oceanography, Ecology and Planetry Science.
Volunteer Education Assistant Delivering a wide range of conservation themed activities to (mainly) primary school chidren, such as pond dipping, minibeast Safaris, storytimes, a range of talks, and pretend vet sessions!
I work with an agency across both primary and secondary schools to help deliver lessons in the absence of the schools' normal day-to-day staff. My role changes per assignment, but I am often a teaching assistant, providing 1-1 pupil support; a cover supervisor, providing whole-class support with pre-set work; or an exam invigilator, making sure exam conditions are upheld across whole year groups. I have completed my Keeping Children Safe in Education Award (KSIE) and have experience working 1-1 with SEND children and in SEND classes. As part of my job as a cover supervisor in high schools I often cover science lessons in the absence of peremenant school staff, this includes Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Geography and PE, Biology from year 7 all the way to year eleven revision classes. Other times I work at a teaching assistant in SEND and primary school classes, working 1 -1 with students. I love when students are able to leave lessons a little bit more confident in STEM than they used to be!
I am a reliable team member with experience maintaining high hygiene and safety standards, working efficiently in fast-paced environments, and supporting smooth day-to-day operations. This role has given me skills in; careful handling of food to avoid cross contamination, following protocols and proper monitoring and recording of fridge and warm hold temperatures, which are transferable to a labratory setting where following protocols and avoiding cross - contamination is essential. I also hold a Level 2 Food Hygiene for Caterers Award.
This was a temporary contract that involved working across all age groups, from babies to adults. I assessed progress, created tailored lesson plans, and set up for lessons. In this role I worked in a team of teachers, mostly leading the lessons, but sometimes assisting other lessons. From group child lessons to adult 1-1s, I have learnt how to adapt my language, teaching style and lesson plan for all age groups and abilities and am able to create a comfortable and fun learning environment for every lesson.
Teaching baby–parent swimming lessons has strengthened my communication skills and ability to adapt my teaching different learning styles. In this role i managed registers and continually assessed the chidren against a set criteria. I am organised and confident working autominously. I am confident in supporting early development in a nurturing environment. I was awarded my Baby and Pre- School Level 2 Teaching Award and Lifesaving for Teachers Award in this role.
