As Creative Designer for the University of Birmingham Linguist Magazine I work closely with the editors team to collect content from members and design a professional magazine. Each quarterly magazine is uniquely designed by me to highlight the work of our members. Alongside the committee team, we update the respective Issuu site and online WordPress blog to ensure our publication in available in both hard and digital copies.
I undertook a teaching Assistantship with the British Council, teaching English as a second language for 8 months in Magdeburg, Germany. This was an inspiring and varied role; I taught a range of classes between the ages of 11-17, assisted with speaking practise sessions, one-on-one support, and general classroom assistance. This was a challenging, but very rewarding role, where I gained vital teaching experience and learnt to adapt to a fast-paced and changing work environment.
I held the role of Social Media Manager for the Wine Society at the University of Birmingham 2018-2019. This was a voluntary role in which I helped rebrand the society, doubling the volume of followers our Instagram page previously had. I introduced interactive elements to our social media pages, such as polls and "stories", to help engage our members and create a sense of community. I also launched the society's Facebook group to share experiences and information to help run our tastings more efficiently; in a year we gained over 250 members. In managing Social Media more effectively, the Wine Society doubled its paid memberships within an academic year, selling out at every tasting.
I held a temporary summer role at the Mercure Letchworth Hall Hotel in 2018. This was a diverse role, working several very busy events and weddings. I had to learn many new skills on the job such as silver service, setting up rooms for conferences and various events alone, and working with a wide range of staff from across the hotel. I was commended for my ability to learn quickly and apply myself in high pressure situations.
