Protective Coating Specialist, employed in the field of corrosion prevention by means of protective & marine coatings since 1994. Comprehensive experience with (wet) thermal insulation and buoyancy materials. Vast theoretical and practical knowledge, utilized during FEED, qualification, planning, project execution and handover/load out on projects in Europe, Asia (Pacific), the Middle East and Africa; in technical-, engineering-, inspection/QC-, managerial-, supervisory-, leadership- and consultancy roles. Industries: • Oil & Gas (SURF, jackets, topsides, jack-up rigs, semi-submersible rigs, FPSO’s, pipelines, refineries) • Marine (all types of vessels) • Energy (power plants and wind energy) • Infrastructure (bridges, airports) • Petrochemical (plants, storage tanks, distillation towers, pressure vessels) • Water treatment Materials: • Any type of air-or airless spray applied coating (single-, two- or multiple-component) • Injection-moulded wet thermal insulation (IMPU and IMPP) • Fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) • 3-layer polyolefin (3LPE & 3LPE) • Mutli-layer polyolefin (MLPP) • Heat-shrinkable sleeves (HSS) • Passive fire protection (PFP) • Polychloroprene (PCP) • Thermally sprayed aluminium and zinc (TSA/TSZ) • Concrete weight coating (CWC) • Wax- and epoxy-based buoyancy materials
• Wrote technical documentation (specifications, engineering requisitions, technical bid evaluations, philosophies and reports), covering the application of anti-corrosion coating systems and wet thermal insulation systems for various oil & gas projects. • Reviewed, as an integral part of the document approval process, technical documentation (e.g. coating procedures and ITP’s) as submitted by vendors/subcontractors. • Provided general (coating/technical) engineering support; internally (to different disciplines) and externally (clients and (sub)contractors) during bid, engineering and project execution phases. • Supervised qualification trials, pre-production trials and production (onshore and offshore) for wet thermal insulation, line pipe coating and field joint coating systems, ensuring that the processes followed are conducted in a safe manner and are complying with the project requirements, as well as the approved procedures/ITP’s.
• Supervised coating & insulation activities on the oil and gas production (well) jumpers for the OCTP Development Project (ENI) and the Jubilee Project (Tullow Oil). • Led a team of nine blasters/applicators; ensuring the daily activities were completed safely, on schedule and in accordance with the approved procedures/ITP’s. • Conducted all relevant QC inspections/tests and issued daily inspection reports. • Resolved technical issues related to coating/insulation on site; including the identification and repair of non-conformances and defects to the coating/insulation systems. • Provided on-site training for operators.
Seconded to BP’s Site Team in Baku, to oversee all coating and insulation activities on the Shah Deniz 2 gas development project: •Witnessed pre-production trials related to the application of wet thermal insulation (IMPU and IMPP), anti-corrosion coatings and field joint coating (PCP, coating and heat-shrinkable sleeves), to ensure that the qualified procedures were replicated on site. •Witnessed/monitored the daily activities related to the application of wet thermal insulation on risers, spools, flowlines and subsea equipment (FTA’s, SSIV’s, UCMC’s and walking anchors) to ensure that the requirements of the approved procedures, ITP’s and project specifications were met and that the processes were completed in a safe manner. •Assisted the QC Team with the daily inspection activities related to surface preparation and coating application on jackets, risers and subsea equipment. •Reviewed and coded, as an integral part of the approval process, specifications, procedures, ITP’s, drawings and PQT/PPT reports as submitted by the main contractor, related to coating and insulation of jackets, risers and subsea equipment. •Supported the main contractor and the QC Team by resolving technical issues related to the coating and insulation activities on site. •Responded to technical queries and deviation requests raised by the main contractor and be an integral part of the approval/acceptance process. •Acted as the replacement of the Coating & Insulation Specialist in charge of surface preparation and coating application (3LPE and CWC) at the pipe coating facility in Baku, during times of absence (i.e. rotational leave). •Conducted regular QC audits concerning surface preparation and coating application (including PFP) at the topside fabrication yard in Baku.
•Reviewed and coded, as an integral part of the approval process, technical documentation (specifications, procedures, ITP’s and drawings) submitted by vendors & subcontractors, concerning coating, wet thermal insulation and subsea buoyancy materials for offshore structures, pipelines, subsea equipment and umbilicals. •Wrote coating specifications and technical notes for offshore structures, pipelines, subsea equipment and energy projects. •Witnessed procedure qualification trials and proof-of-concept trials for buoyancy modules, MLPP and CWC, in order to ensure that the procedures followed are complying with the approved procedures/ITP’s and specification requirements. •Provided general technical support related to corrosion prevention by means of protective coatings to WGK and its clients. Projects: •Shah Deniz 2 (BP) •TEN Development (Tullow Oil) •Tetney Sealine Replacement & Bantry Bay (Phillips 66) •Offshore windfarm (SSE) •FPSO “Terra Nova”/Fabric Maintenance (Suncor)
