Dissertation: “Cross-layer optimizations in layered architectures” Toolset, development process and runtime environment for applications that bypass middleware layers in order to improve server throughput and quality of service. Advisor: Prof. Prem Devanbu MOBYL: - Toolset and runtime for developing typesafe middleware applications those integrate with the middleware’s socket-handling layer. (layer-crosscutting applications hereafter) - an extended, aspect-oriented IDL for designing layer-crosscutting applications. - A custom code generator generates pieces of the application for both application-level and middleware specific socket handling layer. - It also includes run-time support for the layer-crosscutting applications. - Implemented for CORBA based middleware. I hacked both JacORB (open source) and Orbacus code to implement the run-time support and integration with the application lifecycle. - Released at http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~demir/wwcsif/Research.html
