As a chartered scientist and fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation, previously Head of Mobility R&D at the world's largest automotive supplier and having been instrumental in connected and automated vehicle (CAV) projects worth more than £50m, I have created Reed Mobility (www.reed-mobility.co.uk), an independent expert consultancy for future mobility topics. This brings together my experiences at Bosch, working at the heart of city mobility, leading CAV research for the UK's Transport Research Laboratory and my role as Chief Road Safety Adviser for National Highways, developing their strategy for sketching Vision Zero. My projects span the public, private and academic sectors to provide a service that can enable companies to make appropriate investment and strategy decisions, authorities to determine policy and allocate resource appropriately, academia to establish partnerships with corporate bodies and align research directions and give guidance to start-up / scale-up organisations. Reed Mobility has established itself as a trusted partner for organisations developing future mobility products, services, strategies and guidance with clients including the European Commission, DfT, TfL, Bosch, BSI, Mott MacDonald, PA Consulting and Oxfordshire County Council. My academic background is a psychology degree from the University of Cambridge followed by a DPhil and postdoctoral work in the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford on visual perception, genetic algorithms / neural networks and virtual reality. I held a visiting professorship at the University of Surrey 5G Innovation Centre to help develop R&D collaboration between the transport and communications sector. My work to date has achieved extensive media coverage including appearances on BBC News, Sky News, ITN, and CNN, plus reports in The Times, The Sun, The Daily Telegraph and many web news outlets. In 2016, I also delivered a talk on The Future of Vehicle Automation at TEDx Reading. Specialities: driver behaviour, autonomous driving, vehicle automation, ethics, connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems, driving impairment, trial design and analysis, report writing, research, innovation, consortia formation.
Previously Head of Mobility R&D for the world's largest automotive supplier and led connected and automated vehicle projects of more than £50m, I created Reed Mobility (www.reed-mobility.co.uk) to provide expert, independent consultancy in the field of future mobility, working to support the needs of the public, private and academic sectors in navigating the complexities and challenges of transportation systems. This includes leading the creation of suitable trials of connected and automated vehicle systems, understanding the business models around commercial deployment of such systems and how they can be integrated as part of wider city transportation networks. I also have expertise around behaviour change, active travel and the ethics associated with automated vehicle deployment. I deliver strategic insights into future transportation, build consortia for collaborative R&D projects, create compelling bids, tackle challenging projects tasks and reports and support PhD and postdoctoral research activities.
