About

An experienced lawyer, mediator, adjudicative decision-maker, executive leader, and company director, I practised as a civil and commercial litigation partner and solicitor with global and Australian law firms for over 20 years until my appointment as President of the Mental Health Tribunal of Western Australia in 2022. As a national practice group head, I led high-performing teams and was a trusted adviser to insurance and financial services clients, Government, hospitals and health practitioners, aged and disability care providers, the infrastructure sector, and universities. I appeared as counsel at inquests, inquiries and as a trial and appellate advocate before State and Federal courts and was rated annually in Doyle’s Guide and the AFR’s Best Lawyers as one of Australia’s leading Health and Aged Care solicitors. I’ve exercised determinative functions on inquisitorial and adversarial tribunals, served on boards and advisory councils, taught law, and supervised research. As an immigrant and LGBTQIA+ person of Chinese descent, I bring empathy and compassion from my lived experience of diversity, disadvantage and disability to advance good governance, inclusion, sound public administration, solution-focussed judging, and fair decisions.
