Dr Tracy Westerman AM is a proud Nyamal woman from the Pilbara in Western Australia. Her most notable awards include: -Order of Australia (AM), 2021 Australian of the Year (WA) 2018 -Lifetime Achievement Award, Curtin University, 2018 -WA Women’s Hall of Fame 2018, Inductee -2020 Winner Telstra Women’s WA Small Business Award, 2020 -40 under 40 WA Business Award -Suicide Prevention Australia, Emerging Researcher, 2006 -Mark Liveris Award, Curtin University best Presentation of PhD across the Health Sciences She holds a PostGradDip in Psychology, a Master’s & PhD in Clinical Psychology. In 2003, she became the first Aboriginal person to complete a combined Masters/Phd in Clinical Psychology. Her PhD resulted in the development of FOUR unique psychometric tests, the cornerstone of which was the Westerman Aboriginal Symptom Checklist-Youth (WASC-Y) cited by Canadian Health (2009) as being a “substantial contribution” to Aboriginal youth suicide. She has since validated 9 unique tests, multiple unique Indigenous Mental Health & Suicide Prevention evidence based programs & trained 30,000+ clinicians Australia wide in these programs & tests. She is arguably the most in demand trainer in Australia. In her ‘downtime’ Dr Westerman is also a keen marathon runner, having completed Bunbury, Perth and Melbourne marathons and many half marathons.
