Simon is an architect and researcher with a specialism in delivering sustainable design. He has worked for several UK architectural practices including HLM, Shepheard Epstein Hunter and Scott Brownrigg and his doctoral research examined approaches to developing low-carbon new-build social housing. His academic and professional experience will be utilised by AHMM to explore approaches for delivering net-zero carbon buildings through a collaborative research project with the Bartlett School of Environment Energy and Resources at UCL. The research will draw on case study projects with ambitious sustainability targets to consider design solutions, emerging typologies, and standards for meeting net-zero carbon targets on large-scale commercial developments.
I am passionate about fostering creativity and critical thinking in the next generation of architects to address the global challenges of addressing the climate emergency. My role involves the developing engaging curricula, supporting students in their projects, and conducting impactful research in sustainable materials and energy-efficient design. I actively collaborate with industry partners to promote sustainable solutions and contribute to outreach initiatives that raise awareness of net zero solutions and sustainable architecture.
I am involved in leading aspects of delivering the zero carbon toolkit process, which is an outcome of the AHMM/UCL KTP research. This involves liaising with project teams, advising on zero carbon strategies, aligning modelling and analysis work and communicating outputs with architects, design team collaborators, clients and beyond.
