Programme Leader of Business and Innovation Foundation Year in the Centre for Academic Persistence at Arden University
I lead five modules across the Arts, Humanities & Education Foundation Year, specialising in the delivery of material which introduces students to the rigours of academic study, and quickly enhances their skill-set and confidence within a Higher Education setting. Whilst also specialising the in the delivery of media modules, where I tutor students from a range of pathways including film, photography, graphic design, games design, digital media and media and communications. I also tutor students from across the range of arts and humanities in the academic written and oral skills required to prosper undergraduate level. As Course Director between 2021 and 2023, I was responsible for leading the validation of the Arts, Humanities & Education Foundation Year working alongside Course Directors and academic staff on the parent programmes, the library team, the Learning & Teaching Enhancement team, and the Faculty Quality team on the development of curriculum for programme. As module leader, I have taken a leading role in the design and delivery of the newly developed modules, and also the integration of specific learning technologies which support and enhance learning at Foundation Year level and beyond. I have also engaged with students as partners in learning, where the objective has been to see the inclusion of the student voice in enhancing the student experience for subsequent cohorts. This has been an initiative which has impacted upon the wider university culture, and has been recognised through a faculty innovation award and also presentations at academic conferences alongside students.
My main responsibilities were to devise, structure, deliver and lead weekly lectures and seminars in various modules, across foundation year and Levels 4, 5 & 6. These included: Cultural Studies; Media Studies; Research Skills; Contemporary Media Debates; Public Relations; Celebrity and the Media; Media and Society , and foundation year modules including Personal and Career Development and Academic Writing and Study Skills.
