Thakur joined Intel in 2017, bringing 40 years of experience as a hands-on innovator and business leader with expertise in global manufacturing, research and development, and profitable P&L management. Thakur joined Intel as corporate vice president of Global Supply Management, expanding his role to chief supply chain officer in 2020. His deep expertise in global semiconductor manufacturing, ecosystem leadership, process technology equipment and customer orientation are critical to the success of Intel Foundry Services. In 2021, he was the senior vice president and the president of Intel Foundry Services. Under Thakur’s leadership, Intel Foundry Services was leading the development and growth of Intel’s new foundry business, a significant element of Intel’s IDM 2.0 strategy. His organization brought Intel’s leading-edge process and packaging technology, broad IP portfolio and committed capacity to serve foundry customers. Thakur’s team was focused on building a world-class service organization with a strong focus on technology innovation and operational excellence. Previously, he served as executive vice president of the silicon systems group at Applied Materials Inc., leading the company’s semiconductor business. Prior to that role at Applied Materials, he led the company’s flat-panel display and solar business. Thakur earned a bachelor’s degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra, in India; a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in Canada; and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2013 and holds more than 300 patents.
Responsible for managing Intel’s external ecosystem across technology, design, manufacturing, and product supply chain to enable Intel’s product life cycle from research and development to high volume manufacturing, including outsourced manufacturing. His organization also manages Intel's corporate sourcing and procurement, supply chain operations, as well as worldwide planning and logistics of product delivery to customers. In this capacity, responsible for company’s multi-billion dollar annual spending with external supplier and partner ecosystem with a global team of >4000 employees including Engineers, Negotiators, Data Scientists, Analysts, Program Managers, Planners, Buyers, Solution Architects, and Product Supply Chain Architects. His organization works across the company with partner organizations such as Intel architecture, design, technology development, manufacturing and operations, business units, and sales and marketing to source the best solutions from the ecosystem to deliver a cadence of leadership products to Intel’s customers.
Led a global team of >6,000 people, managed P&L of $6B+ working closely with the Board of Directors. Delivered growth in operating profits, revenues, and increasing market share. Drove innovation, product creation, releasing 100+ new products in 5 years by renewing business units’ vision to apply nano technology on every chip manufactured around the world.
Led Applied Materials business offering manufacturing systems for flat panel displays, and thin film solar products for producing large size solar photovoltaic (PV) modules. Grew revenues by initiating new product line in the new Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) market. Streamlined system manufacturing processes and scaled operations in Taiwan in less than a year.
