About

Dr. Norbert A. Braun was born 1967 in Heilbronn (Germany). He studied Chemistry and Biology from 1988 to 1994 and obtained his “Staatsexamen” in 1994 from the Universität Hohenheim, Stuttgart (Germany). In 1997 he received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Universität Hohenheim, Stuttgart (Germany), where he carried out research under the direction of Prof. D. Spitzner entitled “Synthesis of Enantiopure Precursors of Terpenoids and their Analogues”. Two scholarships were granted to him from the “Stiftung Stipendien-Fonds des Verbandes der Chemischen Industrie e.V.”, Frankfurt a. M. (Germany) and the “Landesgraduiertenförderung Baden-Württemberg” (Germany). Furthermore he was an exchange student at the Università degli Studi, Milano (Italy) sponsored by the DAAD Vigoni“-program of EU. From 1997 to 1999 he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the group of Prof. M. A. Ciufolini at Rice University, Houston, Texas (USA) and Université Claude Bernard / Ecole Supérieure de Chimie Physique Elektronique, Lyon (France), where he developed oxazoline-based methods for the oxidative amidation of phenols. In 1999 Dr. Braun joined Dragoco now Symrise, Holzminden (Germany) where he held various positions in Fragrance Research. For Symrise he is currently based in Singapore as Vice President Innovation & QC, Scent & Care, responsible for Applied Research, Analytical Encapsulation & QC in Asia Pacific. He is the author/coauthor of 34 papers, 15 X-ray structures and 14 patents. Beside several other lectures he was given the honor to deliver the XEROX lecture 2012 in the series “Lectures in Modern Chemistry” at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. His research interests center on natural and synthetic fragrance raw materials including their synthesis, analysis and application as well as on natural product synthesis. Specialties: Management of Research & Development in various countries including USA, France, Germany and Asia Pacific with labs in Singapore, India, China & Japan in the field of fragrance research. This including Applied Research, Analytical, Encapsulation, QC and Application, but also chemical synthesis (natural products, actives etc.) and Open Innovation (Custom Synthesis). Design and coordination of labs and offices across Asia Pacific (Singapore, India, China and Indonesia)
