As the managing partner for the EY industrial and energy industry group, Lance’s leadership responsibilities include oil and gas, power and utilities, advanced manufacturing & mobility, and mining sectors across Canada. Lance supports the team in driving the growth of key client accounts. This is enabled by integrating EY offerings and go-to-market approach, deal strategies and shaping, and developing innovative solutions and assets to serve our clients in new value-added ways. Furthermore, as part of his role, Lance coordinates future thinking regarding energy business trends, uncertainties, risks, and opportunities. As a strategy practitioner working with the c-suite, Lance has provided consulting services over 25 years on +200 projects to +80 clients in 11 countries. He brings a broad set of strategic skills and experiences, helping clients solve some of their most complex strategic problems. Areas of support and expertise include corporate strategy and planning, strategy execution, market opportunity assessment, merger and transaction integration and carve-outs, cost management, transformation, innovation, business management systems, process improvement, enterprise risk management, organization performance, and design and effectiveness. Lance has authored +45 points of view on various essential business topics. Lance is an expert in Canada's energy trends and market dynamics, with over 100 citations across multiple industry publications, national and international newspapers, and BNN. Lance is also an opinion columnist, external advisory board member for CEOWORLD magazine, a columnist for Chief Executive Magazine, and the author of two books including, Disaster Proof: Scenario Planning for Post-Pandemic Future, and Outside In, Inside Out: Unleashing the Power of Business Strategy in Times of Market Uncertainty. Lance has an undergraduate degree from Exeter University, an MBA from Cardiff Business School, and a Doctorate from the University of Calgary, Haskayne School of Business. He is a Certified Management Consultant, a Certified Change Management Professional, a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt, and a Project Management Professional. Lance completed a LEAD certificate in Corporate Innovation at Stanford GSB, advanced strategy at INSEAD, and an AI certificate from MIT. Lance also completed Harvard Business School's high-performance leadership program. Lance is an Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Calgary Haskayne School of Business.

As the oil and gas sector leader I helped our focus account teams ensure we are bringing the best thinking, knowledge, ideas and solutions to the client leveraging the vast expertise at EY. I drive cross functional efforts in the development of industry focused points of view on topical issues and business challenges as well as represent EY in the media on energy related topics. I also lead one of our key accounts as the global client service partner coordinating and leading EY efforts in terms of service quality, performance and growth.
Over a 5 year period I drove EY Canada's strategy practice supporting the build out of a team of ~75 strategy consultants spread across multiple cities coast to coast. The practice build included the development of client solutions, community, training including skills and capability development, marketing campaigns and offerings, credentials and points of view on key business topics in the strategy space.
This committee of SAIT leaders and community executives examine, discuss and make recommendations on SAIT’s business administration and management programming. Through the committee, the school benefits from the expertise, perspectives, knowledge and experience in the field of business the different leaders bring to the table. This helps shape the direction of programs, so our graduates leave with the skills and understanding they need to be successful in the workplace.
This Adjunct appointment includes engagement with the MBA and BComm programmes through student mentoring, guest lectures and other activities, collaboration in research initiatives, and generally serving as an advocate and ambassador for the Haskayne School of Business.
As a Visiting Professor my responsibilities include: Collaborating with Haskayne faculty on research in Strategy, Organizational Behavior and Human Resources, serving as guest lecturer in various classes and provide mentorship to students on a selective basis and Assisting in assembling and chairing advisory board on advanced principles of financial leadership comprised of senior financial executives from Calgary and Alberta based companies.

The External Advisory Board (EAB) of the CEOWORLD magazine provides advice and counsel to the editorial department regarding industry’s and other constituents’ needs and trends, and therefore support the department in the achievement of its strategic goals. The EAB includes individuals with national and international prominence, CEOs, CFOs, senior executives, business leaders, government agencies, and high net worth individuals from the academic and non-academic sector.
As a contributing columnist for Chief Executive magazine, I focus on writing insightful articles that delve into the realms of strategy, leadership, and transformation. My work often includes interviews with eminent thinkers, such as former prime ministers, military generals, and NASA astronauts, providing readers with unique perspectives and expert insights. Through my contributions, I aim to inspire and inform executives and decision-makers, helping them navigate the complexities of modern leadership and organizational change.
