Experienced leader of development-related research activities with extensive experience in AI and computer vision. My career is marked by innovations, successful team leadership and strategic product development in medical imaging. As (co-)inventor of over 100 US patents, I combine technical expertise with strategic business acumen and a strong focus on customer-centric solutions. Lead AI and image analysis related innovation activities: overall 9 innovation awards for product relevant software technologies and contributions to 4 GrandCru (>$25M business impact) Awards. Contribute to the Research Strategy: definition of numerous successful activities. Build new topics and technologies: set-up of a cardiac US activity leading to a continuous stream of innovations - establishment of AI and neural network-based image analysis methods. Improve efficiency of research and development work: development of re-usable image analysis platforms resulting in a 50 - 70% reduction of the development effort - set-up and coordination of a ValueStream (~30 FTE) as VSO to improve efficiency and technical coherence. Set up public funded projects: key contributions to the definition and management of 5 public funded projects - maintenance of a network with Universities and hospitals in Europe. Generate inventions & patents: Philips Patent Awards in 2023 (Diamond for 100 granted US patents), 2015 (Gold for 50 granted US patents) and 2012 (Silver for 25 granted US patents) - contributions to the prioritization of inventions.
Coordinate a project cluster and lead image analysis related innovation activities: development of a technology for organ recognition incl. generation of a patent portfolio that is today a key component of >15 products and licensed to third parties - development of volume rendering algorithms (CPU & GPU) - development of functional extensions of the CathLab (e.g. dose control) - overall 5 innovation awards and contributions to 2 GrandCru (>$25M business impact) Awards. Contribute to the strategy for image-guided interventions: definition of activities for interventional guidance in the Cathlab (innovation award and contribution to Grand Cru Award in 2010). Set up public funded projects: key contribution to the definition and management of the euHeart project (13.90 M€ EU funding) Generate inventions & patents: Bronze Philips Patent Award in 2006 (10 granted US patents) - contributions to the prioritization of inventions.
Lead and contribute to algorithm development for multi-modality medical image analysis, image-guided surgery and visualization: overall 2 innovation awards. Manage projects, align content with business owners and initiate new projects.
Carrying out research work in Rheology / Materials Science: publication of >10 frequently cited scientific articles. Manage the IT infrastructure of the FMF: selection, installation and administration of the computing equipment (14 Unix workstations, 40 Windows PCs, software) of the FMF.
