Greetings fellow connected! Dr. Jack Wellington MBBCh (Hons) MSc (LSHTM) PGCert (HealthRes) PGCert (Cantab) MHLA MISM MRSB FGMS FLS FRSA FRSM FRSPH completed his medical degree at Cardiff University, graduating within the top 5% of his cohort and being awarded honours. During his undergraduate training, he intercalated at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, obtaining an MSc in Medical Microbiology, and undertook his neurosurgical elective at the University of Oxford. Dr. Wellington is passionate about pursuing a career in academic neurosurgery. He successfully completed the highly competitive Specialised/Academic Foundation Programme (SFP/AFP) within the Yorkshire & Humber Deanery, securing academic placements in both Vascular Surgery and Neurosurgery. He subsequently served as a Clinical Fellow (JCF) in Neurosurgery and Spinal Surgery at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is now an incoming NIHR-funded Academic Clinical Fellow (ACF) in Neurosurgery at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where he will combine specialist neurosurgical training with protected academic research time. Dr. Wellington has developed an exceptionally prolific academic portfolio. During his undergraduate and postgraduate training, he held numerous national and international leadership positions, including Co-Director of the Abdulrauf University of Neurosurgery Research Institute, Academic Chair of the Royal Society of Medicine Student Section, Vice President of the Walter E. Dandy Neurosurgical Society UK Student Club, and President of the Cardiff University Research Society (CUReS), among others. Alongside his clinical commitments, Dr. Wellington has dedicated substantial time to research and academic scholarship. He has authored more than 100 publications spanning neurosurgery, neurology, neuropsychiatry, and global/public health. He has delivered over nine oral presentations and more than thirty poster presentations at national and international conferences, while also serving as a research advisor, editor, reviewer, and advocate for initiatives promoting clinical and surgical research worldwide. Beyond medicine, Dr. Wellington is an accomplished musician and has attained fellowship status with both the Royal Society of Arts and the Guild of Musicians and Singers. An avid violinist, violist, pianist, and organist, he continues to pursue musical excellence alongside his clinical and academic endeavours.
