Gabriel Tang is an architect and Senior Lecturer in Architecture at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. He trained at the Bartlett, University College (UCL) London, UK, and worked in the offices of Foster + Partners, London. He holds a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, UK, on the novel use of deployable gridshells as formwork for concrete shell construction. His research interests lie in technology culture, material tectonics and the innovation synergies between architecture, structure and construction processes. In 2016, his book TIMBER GRIDSHELLS-Architecture, Structures and Craft was published by Routledge. He has been invited to speak at conferences/ institutions and has delivered keynotes at international conferences/ workshops.
Describe your position
I was invited to join Foster and Partners during my external examinations at The Bartlett. Whilst I was with the company, I worked on The Formula One McLaren's Racing Car Headquarters in Woking, UK as well as The Leslie L Dan Building in Toronto, Canada.
