Expertise: Pioneering types and processes of digital site-specific art and drawing have been the outcomes of Dr Eugenia Fratzeskou's research leadership of highly successful international research projects with artists, architects and computer scientists since 2000. Her research has advanced a wider discourse on digital visualisation systems and virtual environments in site-specific, digital media art and architecture, through inventing methodologies for mapping the invisible inter-passages between virtual and actual spaces within new types of site-specific virtual environments. She has also investigated new relationships between philosophy, computer science and virtual reality. Her expertise expands into symbolic logic, algebraic, geometrical processes, nuclear physics, and computational chemistry. Her publications include 13 monographs, with some of them translated in 8 languages (53 publications in total). They address how abstraction and creativity are redefined when drawing operates as a ‘fold’ across matter, data and space. Contemporary metaconditions enable the mutual redefinition of drawing, research and practice through new becomings. Selected collaborations: Leonardo ISAST/MIT, EspacioEnterCanarias 2016-9 (Artechmedia/TEA museum, Tenerife), ABC:MTL2012-3 (CCA, Canada), ISEA International Symposia on Electronic Art since 2010, 53rd & 50th Venice Biennale, Digicult, Unbuilt2008 (Athens Byzantine & Christian Museum/SARCHA), CADISE, GAGE, CADE, AHRC Fine Art Collaborative Doctoral Training, Not-TV/UCL, etc. Work presented at: Tate Britain, NYDigitalSalon, TRACEY, Without Borders, University of Maine 2004, Marks in Space, Usher Gallery/Arts Council/Hayward Gallery 2004, Drawing - The process, Kingston University/University of Plymouth, 2003-4. It symbolises this edition’s exploration of the intersection between art, science, and technology, and envisioning the future of digital and electronic arts. Charting Constellations: Exploring the intersection of art and environmental responsibility, focusing on ecological awareness and sustainable technological engagement. Celestial Dialogues: Investigating the relationship between technology and human experience, including ethical, philosophical, and speculative dimensions. Eco-Tech Futures: Examining practices that advocate for ecological awareness and critical futures thinking. Starlinked Worlds: Considering the evolving relationship between technology and human experience, inviting reflection on emerging futures. Hosts: Zayed University and Dubai Culture Founded in the Netherlands, 1990, ISEA International is a key international non-profit organisation for fostering interdisciplinary academic discourse and exchange among culturally diverse organisations and individuals working with art, science and technology. ISEA International Headquarters is supported by the University for the Creative Arts (UK). The International Symposium on Electronic/Emerging Art is an annual symposium that contributes to knowledge in the fields of art, science, and technology; supports emerging approaches to research and practice on complex and relevant topics; generates knowledge and understanding from interdisciplinary and/or cross-sector perspectives by bringing together diverse communities of art practitioners and scholars. The International Programming Committee comprises internationally renowned experts in the field, and is responsible for peer review of academic submissions.
The International Symposium on Electronic Art is a prominent event that brings together scholars, artists, and scientists from around the world to explore the intersection of art, science, and technology. The symposium was first held in 1988 and has since become one of the most significant forums for exchanging ideas and presenting cutting-edge work in electronic art and related fields. What makes ISEA unique is how the symposium combines an academic conference with a creative program of exhibitions, performances, and workshops – bringing together artists, academics, theorists and creative technologists to share their research along with their latest prototypes, technological developments and creative works. With its theme "Creators' Universe", ISEA2025 endeavors to explore a new worldview that transcends the recurring theme of posthumanism in contemporary art, as well as the divisions between East and West, art and science, materiality and spirituality, and technology and humanity. Key partners include the University for the Creative Arts, UK (ISEA International HQ), the hosts Seoul Metropolitan Government, Art Center Nabi, Seoul Arts Center, National Gugak Center, SNU Institute for Culture and Arts, SNU Museum of Art and many other local and international partners. The International Programming Committee (IPC) is composed of internationally renowned experts in the field. ...... 2nd Digital Arts Student Competition 2025: Speculative Futures https://dac.siggraph.org/competition/2nd-digital-arts-student-competition-2025 The 30th International Symposium on Electronic/Emerging Art Seoul (ISEA2025) in partnership the ACM SIGGRAPH Digital Arts Committee is proud to sponsor the 2nd Speculative Futures International Student Competition.
LGA is a comprehensive database of PhD, Masters and MFA theses abstracts. It is part of the Leonardo Educators and Students program supporting the new generation of researchers, and innovation at the intersection of art, science and technology. In addition to being published in the LGA database, a selection of abstracts chosen by the PRP is published annually in Leonardo journal and on the LGA website. Authors of abstracts most highly ranked by the panel are also invited to submit an article for publication consideration in Leonardo. The international Peer-Review Panel (PRP) made up of academics and artists, is chaired by the Editor-in-Chief Mary Anne Staniszewski. Sheila Pinkel had originated and led LGA for over twenty years (retired in 2023) LGA received the LEONARDO PIONEER AWARD in 2018, under the leadership of Emerita Professor Sheila Pinkel (https://leonardo.info/blog/2018/08/03/pomona-labs-award).
