Doris Ufoegbune is the creator, producer, writer and host of Flavours of Africa. She is also the owner of Global Cuisine Catering Services which was created in January 2006. Ufoegbune thought about establishing catering services after many colleagues told her that they truly loved her food and then took a chance and launched her own business. Taking a step further, she spoke to the Mayor of Ottawa about her business who became interested in having her cater to city events. He appointed Ufoegbune to cater to over two hundred dignitaries including seventy foreign students that came from Nigeria to attend college. Ufoegbune, once again, took another chance and invited all the African Ambassadors to participate with Canadians in an event that she called “Flavours of Africa” which later became the name of her hit TV show. Media Attention and Flavours of Africa Ufoegbune received media attention and made regular appearances on Daytime Ottawa (Rogers TV). Her appearances brought Global Cuisine closer to the community. ON July 12, 2006, The Ottawa Citizen featured Doris Ufoegbune in an article titled: “A Caterer Devoted to Her Artistry” in their daily food section. Express Ottawa also featured Global Cuisine during one of her many catering events. Ufoegbune appeared on the front page of The Star and in that issue, an article entitled, “African Taste-bud Adventure for Charity” was written up about her. Newspapers in Ottawa were eager to feature Ufoegbune in her cultural regalia and also to taste her delicious African and international dishes. In October 2007, Metro produced an article about Ufoegbune called “Dishing Up African Culture”. Ufoegbune became a regular on A Channel and made TV appearances on CTV NEWS before becoming the creator, producer, writer and host of her very own television program Flavours of Africa.
Doris Ufoegbune is the host and producer of Flavours of Africa, an African cooking show that aired in October 2011 on SHAW TV. It can be seen in most major cities in Alberta. Doris proudly hosts the show with her son, Kevin Ufoegbune. The mother-son duo enlighten viewers about delicious African cuisine as well as custom. While the program delights viewers with a taste of Africa, the two also cook mainstream as well as international dishes giving them all an authentic and exceptional African twist. Due to their uniqueness and passion, Kevin and Doris have quickly become household names across the province of Alberta inspring others to celebrate a love for food, culture and family.
