The main focus of a MDS Reimbursement Specialist is the Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement program process involving the MDS Resident Assessment. This process involves the coordination of a multi-interdisciplinary team assessing the care needs of SNF residents. Great communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential for the MDS process and maximizing reimbursement. I have worked as a Technical MDS Coordinator/Reimbursement Specialist starting Oct 1991 to present. I am not an RN or LPN and coordinate all aspects of the MDS process except for completing the actual MDS assessment/care plans. My role is to coordinate all technical aspects of the MDS process/reimbursement elements to allow the RN Coordinators more time to complete the assessments and ensure there is proper documentation in the chart. I review each MDS to certify all coverable items are included on the MDS in order to maximize our reimbursement.
