About

I have been involved in the engineering of composite structures to various design codes using both hand calculations and advanced analysis methods. Although the majority of my analysis work has been maritime, including production and sailing motor yachts, I have also been involved in architectural and industrial projects. I have used various analysis packages including; Altair Hyperworks with Optistruct Finite Element (FE) solver, Ansys mechanical with Space Claim, Siemens NX with Nastran solver. In addition I used Rhino for interpreting design models and AutoCAD for development of 2D drawing packs. I am also skilled in engineering calculations by hand where necessary and providing engineering project management when needed. I have engineered composite structures for production motor yachts and conducted FE assessments of mechanical parts, investigating both pressure distribution on bearing seals and the mechanical performance of rotating machinery. I have a Bachelors of Engineering in Aerospace Engineering (2:1) and an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in Engineering Sciences awarded by the University of Southampton. My EngD was part of a project with the RNLI investigating service life extension, focusing on materials and stability with further involvement in systems and cost modelling. Current Experience Structural scantlings for deck and hull structures. FE analysis of composite structures. Specification of laminate and core materials.
