I have a broad range of experience working one-to-one with adults in a private practice setting. I have consulted for Harley Therapy between 2008 and 2013 and more recently City Psychology Group between 2017 and 2020 I have worked with an extensive range of presentations using a framework of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), including: > a broad variety of anxiety disorders (generalised anxiety disorder, social/performance anxiety, panic, phobias, health anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder) > depression > stress and work-related stress, burnout > low self-esteem and low self-confidence > shame, self-criticism and perfectionism > anger management > insomnia/sleep difficulties > relationship and communication difficulties > ‘mid-life crisis’/loss of direction in life > problems with decision making > problems relating to particular life events and transitions including bereavement and loss, redundancy and the transition to motherhood > binge-eating My clients are typically comprised of high functioning corporate employees including professionals and executives from business, banking and law. They are both self-referred and referred by occupational health practitioners, GPs and psychiatrists. I am known for swiftly developing robust therapeutic relationships and achieving good outcomes.
Over the three years of my doctoral level training as a counselling psychologist, I experienced an organic growth towards an academic role involving teaching and research. Prior to this role at Goldsmiths, I had worked part-time in the University sector in combination with part-time private practice as a clinician. I was a full time Lecturer in Counselling on the BA Psychosocial Studies in the Department of Social, Therapeutic and Community Studies (STaCs) between 2013 and 2017, convening the programme between 2015 and 2016. During my time at Goldsmiths I contributed to teaching on several postgraduate programmes in the department and my speciality was qualitative research methods. My expertise in this area was focused on Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the methodology that I employed for my doctoral research. I developed a detailed and extensive knowledge of this particular methodology over the years and was the regional contact and co-facilitator of the London Regional IPA Group for three years. Further to this, I was director of a small independent venture, London IPA Training, with my colleague Dr Kate Hefferon. We provided high-quality small group IPA training workshops between 2012 and 2016. My geek superpowers were also focused on epistemology and reflexivity in research as other areas of expertise during this time. I have extensive supervisory and examining experience of masters' and doctoral level research.
