Following the successful validation of RPA, I was promoted to lead the newly established Service Automation team. My responsibility was to build a self-sufficient RPA function that could scale automation across multiple business units, starting with finance. 🔹 Scope of responsibility: ✅ Built and led a cross-functional RPA team (business analysts, developers, solution architect, support) ✅ Designed and implemented a scalable automation framework (logging, error handling, retry logic) ✅ Established governance structures, delivery standards, and process prioritization pipeline ✅ Integrated automation with SAP, BI tools, and ticketing/workflow platforms ✅ Launched an RPA Center of Excellence (CoE) and ran awareness and training programs ✅ Launched and scaled a Citizen Developer program that provided structured, two-semester training and mentoring to over 10% of SSC staff; started as a solo effort and later involved four internal trainers; used as a foundation for automation culture and team growth ✅ Collaborated with business leaders to embed automation in day-to-day operations 🎯 Strategic outcome: Due to the demonstrated success of the initiative, our automation team was repositioned within the corporate structure — moving from the Shared Services Center to the Group level, reporting directly to the CFO's Digitalization Advisor. I began my journey by exploring and validating the potential of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) within the finance and accounting operations of our Shared Services Center. As a Senior GL Accountant, I took responsibility for transferring GL processes from Dutch entities while simultaneously engaging in continuous improvement efforts and early automation initiatives. In this role, I joined the team responsible for transitioning record-to-report (R2R) processes for Dutch Heineken entities into the shared services center in Poland. After the successful transition and process reorganization, I moved into the Intercompany team, focusing on intra-group reconciliation and reporting. ✨ Highlights: ✈️ Supported the migration of accounting operations from the Netherlands to the Kraków-based SSC 🗂️ Performed GL and closing tasks during the transition and stabilization phase 🔄 After internal restructuring, joined the Intercompany team to handle internal settlements and balances 📊 Took ownership of reconciliation monitoring and reporting for intercompany transactions 🧠 Strengthened my understanding of end-to-end R2R processes, internal controls and group finance structures This position helped expand my accounting expertise and introduced me to working in a shared services and international finance environment.
