Hired to direct the development and execution of all HR / people-related strategies for this publicly traded clean energy startup with operations across OH, PA and TX. Oversaw performance management, learning and development, employment practices / processes, payroll, benefits, total rewards, talent acquisition and internal employee-related investigations. Managed a team of 10 direct reports. Facilitated explosive growth from 130 to 275+ employees in one year and significantly expanded minority employee representation across the work force. Positively transformed the HR department’s reputation – inspiring a new focus on people, culture, retention, training & development and employee engagement. Built a high-performing HR team (including two director-level hires) that swiftly earned the trust of employees and executive leaders. Increased investment in employee-focused programs by $100K in year one. Led all people-related functions on behalf of the largest glass board manufacturer in the US, with 250 global employees across the US, UK, France, Belgium, EMEA and UAE. Oversaw all aspects of talent management, including hiring, evaluation, compliance, sourcing, and planning, in addition to managing payroll, benefits, safety and training efforts. Managed and developed five direct reports. Steered the company through the global pandemic, managing a challenging 33% reduction in employee headcount, closure of international business, and an eventual safe return to work post-lockdown. Navigated significant change and turmoil while maintaining strong employee morale. Managed the turnover of entire senior leadership team in a six-month period. Partnered with the Board of Directors to hire a new CEO then on boarded multiple new hires and promotions at the VP level. Championed a significant increase in base pay rate for hourly workers, boosting average hourly pay to $15 and emerging as a fierce employee advocate who is results-driven, fair, and passionate about people.
Developed robust HR programs and systems for this 600+-employee distributor of aftermarket parts, accessories and apparel for motorcycles, ATVs and other recreational vehicles. Conducted market analysis on average wages and authored the company’s employee handbook. Managed 10 direct reports across five warehouse locations and a distributed sales team in the US and Japan. Revised and simplified sales compensation plans, reducing 20+ separate plans to five to retain top talent. In addition, instituted a gain share policy in each warehouse, averaging a 70% payout per facility. Skillfully and sensitively conducted numerous RIFs and established a severance policy and termination process for handling future separations to ensure legal requirements and compliance were maintained.
