Played an integral role in undertaking and developing various molecular biological research experiments, primarily focused on understanding and addressing the issue of diabetes amongst the local UAE population. • Set up efficient lab environments across two different campuses while overseeing the general maintenance and upkeep of all lab equipment and supplies. • Assisted in the collection of patient samples from prominent clinics all over Abu Dhabi, after which I was in charge of processing the samples and maintaining an efficient ‘biobank’ system wherein over 5000 samples of blood, mouthwash and urine were stored and processed for analysis using the LIMS system. • Conducted over 2000 ELISAs on 800 patient samples from a cohort study to determine the levels of AGE and RAGE and their overall impact on diabetes within the patient population. • Assisted Post Docs and Professors from NYU, New York to investigate the bacterial population in mouthwash samples, as well as find specific markers in blood samples of the same patients. • Conducted Hematology analysis on patient blood samples to test levels of salts and proteins within the blood. • Presented Posters showcasing my work at conferences. • Supervised and trained research assistants in designing and conducting experiments, use of specialist equipment and troubleshooting. •Mentored undergraduate students and educated them in a career about research science. •Conducted RT-PCR analysis on samples from culture (using automated liquid handling robots) to quantify the expression of genes involved in biochemical pathways that are accelerated by the diabetic condition.
