Experience

  • Indian Institute of Science (IISc) (25 yrs 1 mo)
    • Faculty Member
      Jul 2001 - Present · 25 yrs 1 mo

Advised/advising the primary research theses/dissertations of 20 PhD, 9 MSc(Engg.) & 44 ME students of IISc in cutting edge nonlinear modeling of multifunctional composites. Apart from the above, a large number of undergraduate including summer research fellows of the joint academies of science/engineering & a few Masters students from different engineering schools all over India & abroad, including Georgia Tech, IITs & NITs, have received guidance on short-term research projects as interns & final year dissertations. Various basic, core & advanced Masters- & Doctoral-level courses taught & very well-received by students. Course evaluations by students have consistently shown ratings of 4.5+ out of 5. Courses also being offered to the industry on aerospace structures & composite structures. Beneficiaries include Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, LM Glasfiber International R&D, Aeronautical Development Establishment, Advanced Systems Lab, DRDO & ANSYS.

    • Head, Nonlinear Multifunctional Composites Analysis & Design (NMCAD) Lab
      Jul 2001 - Present · 25 yrs 1 mo

Founded the Nonlinear Multifunctional Composites – Analysis & Design (NMCAD) Lab with the primary research interest in geometric & material nonlinearities as well as their evolutionary interaction. The goal is to better understand non-classical phenomena in multifunctional composites leading to simultaneously high-fidelity & high-efficiency mathematical models enabling improved analysis & design techniques for futuristic aerospace structures. This is achieved by using state-of-the-art mathematical approaches like the Variational Asymptotic Method, Non-Deterministic Techniques, Concurrent Multiscale Modeling & Nonlinear Domain Decomposition. The Lab is staffed with five research associates who handle current projects. Past and current technical interactions include those with HAL RWR&DC, DR&DL, RCI, CPDC, ADE, AR&DB, DST, CRIAQ, The Boeing Company, Bell Helicopters Textron Ltd., Airbus Group, Goodyear Tires, Concordia University, TU Delft, Politecnico di Milano, Politecnico di Torino, ENS de Cachan, RMIT, Curtin University, Ameron International etc.
