About

Dhanyata Narendra is a fourth-year medical student at University College London, having undertaken an intercalated BSc in Surgical Sciences (First Class Honours). With a strong academic and clinical interest in surgery, her work spans translational research, surgical education, and widening access to the field. She is currently an intern at Eye2Gene, where she has supported the review of regulatory documentation for CE marking of AI-driven diagnostic software, and is now involved in onboarding clinicians and researchers to trial the platform. Her research portfolio includes a PROSPERO-registered systematic review and meta-analysis in orthopaedic surgery, alongside a laboratory-based dissertation investigating mechano-acoustic effects on foetal lung organoids, reflecting a broader interest in the interface between surgical science, technology, and innovation. She has also published an audit abstract on sustainable practices in hand surgery, which was presented at a national conference. Dhanyata has demonstrated sustained leadership within the surgical community. She currently serves as Academic Surgery Chair at UCL, where she leads initiatives to expand student engagement in research, including the development of a multi-tiered mentorship network connecting students with surgical trainees and consultants. She has organised national-level academic events, including research symposia and conferences, and will serve as President of UCL Surgical Society for the 2026/27 academic year. Her commitment to surgery is further reflected in her clinical exposure, having undertaken placements in highly specialised centres such as the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, where she assisted in complex orthopaedic oncology procedures, and Birmingham Children’s Hospital, gaining insight into paediatric surgical subspecialties including plastics, urology, and cardiothoracic surgery. Alongside her academic and surgical pursuits, she is actively involved in widening participation initiatives, leading programmes that support students from underrepresented backgrounds in accessing careers in medical sciences. Dhanyata aspires to contribute to the future of surgical education, with particular interests in innovation, sustainability, and equitable access within the field. 📧 [email protected]
