About

A physician-scientist by training, and was a faculty member at UT MD Anderson Cancer Center for 11 years, eventually rising to the rank of Associate Professor of Pediatrics – Research with tenure. While at MD Anderson, Hughes ran a successful research laboratory, studying sarcoma metastasis and cancer cell signaling, supervising trainees at all levels, and publishing over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts. He also wrote successful grants, eventually receiving two NIH R01 awards in the same grant cycle. From MD Anderson, he went on to be the Managing Director of Accixx Biomedical Consulting, overseeing their business of providing editing and writing services for scientists and academic physicians, before taking a few years off to address some health and personal matters. In December of 2022, Hughes founded Clarity in Science Editing and Writing (Https://clarityinscience.com), where he serves as the President and Managing Director. Clarity in Science Editing and Writing provides premium scientific editing and technical writing services for scientists and academic physicians, without the premium price. Hughes personally conducts or oversees all the services that the company provides. Building on that experience, he most recently has been providing consulting services to biotech and pharma companies that find themselves in need of longitudinal assistance with regulatory document preparation, grant writing, manuscript writing, and PowerPoint presentations, including making pitch decks for outreach to venture capital firms. Companies find that there is a distinct advantage to hiring a consultant with deep experience in science and medicine to assist with their writing and editing needs. He can also assist with project management, including being the study director of record for cGLP/cGMP investigations contracts with CROs. If you are a researcher who would like assistance with manuscripts, grants, or figures, take a look at the company website, and feel free to contact Hughes. If you are a biotech/pharma company that needs help with regulatory writing, editing, or project management, be assured that Hughes presently handles all of that work personally, and will give your work and your product the professional attention it deserves.
