Senior developer promoted to Information Systems Manager. For nine years I was responsible for all functions of the Information Systems group, including software development and all aspects of the organization’s production and operational IT activities. Under my leadership the group developed a wide variety of systems, including software for external clients as well as internal systems for production support, marketing, and administrative functions. Systems were developed for hospital equipment inventory control, database publishing, client management, and document management. Managed approximately 20 direct reports that included software developers, systems programmers, PC support specialists and operations staff. Participated in the analysis and design of all projects. Interviewed and hired new employees and performed periodic employee evaluations. Planned, managed and implemented the installation of the organization’s first network of over 200 personal computers. Planned and managed the installation of a new IBM mainframe computer and all its peripherals. Established a detailed action plan and schedule for its installation. The installation was completed on time, within budget and without an interruption in service. Developed a strategic plan that defined the organization’s long-term information system objectives. As a senior developer I developed several application systems, including a PC-based system used by hospitals to track their medical device inventory and equipment maintenance schedule. I developed software that assisted in the production of several of the organization’s publications. I also developed a centralized document storage, indexing, editing and printing system. I developed a subscription fulfillment system that processed publication orders, payments and other transactions. This system also produced a variety of accounting reports, invoices, renewal notices, and mailing labels.
Designed, developed and implemented a loader/linkage editor program, written in PL/1, to produce executable load modules on an IBM mainframe and transmit them to remote minicomputers. This program increased programmer productivity by allowing development to be done on faster mainframe machines. This project required detailed technical knowledge of object code format and loader construction techniques. Developed as a team member a sophisticated ad hoc reporting system that enabled users to produce custom reports. This project involved a multi-year development effort requiring extensive design, programming and debugging skills. This system is still in use today.
