As the Director of Court Facilities and Security I am responsible for the operation of the Arizona Superior Court in Pima County (Tucson). This is a 9 story buiding housing court operations for 40+ judges. We have over 600,000 persons enter our courthouse every year. I also manage 5 additioonal satellite offices for our conciiation court, pretrial services and adult probation. I plan, schedule and manage maintenance activities as well as courthouse remodels and renovations. I direct courthouse security operations. I have upgraded and expanded a building wide video surveillance system (over 200 cameras) as well as installed a building wide emergency PA system. I arrange special security for high profile trials, high risk trials, and visits to crime scenes by judge and jury. We work closely with a 28 person corrections staff from the Sheriff's Department who handle the transport and care of incarcerated defendants. In addition to my primary duties in facilities and security I am the risk management liaison for both Pima County and the State of Arizona.I am the ADA coordinator and the primary emergency coordinator. I am a member of the 7 person leadership team that meets bi-weekly and directs the operation of the court. I have developed many new procedures, policies, and more efficient ways of operating. I have upgraded both facilities and security in a variety of ways and am recognized as a subject matter expert in both facilties and security by the Arizona court system. I have previously been the plant manager for two separate college campuses, been a licensed general contractor, and worked for a world-wide design-engineer-build company on multimillion dollar construction projects. I have over 30 years of construction experience and over 20 years of experience in security and emergency preparedness; however my greatest skill is the ability to develop collaborative and symbiatic working relationships to achieve common goals.
I direct, manage and operate a Superior Courthouse for the State of Arizona. I am also the director of security that includes entry screening with X-ray machines and magnetometers. I have two armed court security officers and an armed court security manager. I am also the risk manager and primary emergency responder. I have a three person staff that handles facilities obligations as well as order, warehouse and deliver supplies to judges and court personnel. I am the ADA compliance officer for the court and also coordinate special events from college level mock trial competitions to nighttime jury visits to a crime scene. I also do a lot of training from security training to defensive driving training. I have both state certifications and FEMA certifications for health and safety. I report directly to the court administrator and presiding judge and have made a large number of improvements in all areas under my guidance resulting in my position being changed from the facility manager to the director of court facilities and security. I have been a former licensed general contrator in the state of Arizona and been a superintendant and field engineer for a world-wide construction company for 10 years. I have supervised a variety of employees and as many as 300 at one time. My management skills, quick and efficient decision making, and ability to develop strong and symbiotic working relationships with diverse groups of people are my strongest assests.
I was responsible to operate a college campus incuding maintenace, custodial, croundskeeping as well as capital improvements and renovation. I fulfilled this role at two different campuses, one of 67 acres and one of 247 acres, both with multiple buildings and hundreds of thousands of square feet within the buildings.
