Advising infrastructure and growth-stage companies on how to structure, finance, and scale projects by aligning capital, government, and commercial strategy. My experience sits at the intersection of strategy, capital, and execution - particularly in complex, stakeholder-driven environments - and my areas of focus are: - Infrastructure and energy project development - Capital raising and financial structuring - Public–private partnerships - Corporate growth and transformation - Decarbonization and net-zero strategy Engagements include advising on project structuring, investor positioning, stakeholder alignment, and commercialization strategies in capital-intensive and regulated markets.
Founded and scaled a start-up renewable energy business into a global pioneer of wastewater energy transfer (WET) technology that built and commissioned the worlds largest WET system of its day supplying 19MW of thermal energy and displacing 8400 tCO2e annually (the equivalent of 15,000 cars off the road). Secured government and broader stakeholder support for additional WET projects including $200 million of additional debt and equity financing commitments and then completed the acquisition of two heat network assets in Scotland that were part of a growing project pipeline in Canada, the US and UK. Ultimately, the cancellation of carbon pricing and other external factors, unforeseen at underwriting, led to liquidity and legal challenges for the Canadian business and, by extension, US operations, leaving just the UK business which is performing to plan - validating the underlying business model.
Board of Directors
Architect and driver of the corporate reorganization/privatization that created Enwave Energy Corporation. As President & CEO, I implemented a successful change management plan that ultimately transformed a struggling non-profit utility into a market leading district energy business achieving a 13% CAGR and high MOIC on exit. Some of the operational and financial changes included: - recruiting best in class team - implementing a new rate structure to mitigate weather and commodity risk and stabilize earnings. - a gas hedging program that contributed 18% of annual EBITDA. - value-add customer service programs generating $1M incremental revenue annually. - 310-Wave emergency hotline to restore customer confidence - employee engagement initiatives to secure buy-in and accountability transforming a stagnant organizational culture and securing union agreement to forgo strike action. - delivery of the landmark $300M Deep Lake Water Cooling project, $50M modernization of the Pearl Street Steam Plant - implemented sales and marketing strategy that expanded the customer base threefold. Post acquisition by Brookfield in 2013, as Executive Chairman, my focus shifted from the management of the Toronto business to expanding our footprint across the continent. Over the next four years, we grew Enwave into one of the largest District Energy operators in North America with 15 systems in 12 cities by leveraging my personal capital and relationships and the experience of our best in class team.
