Testing for sexually transmitted infections in the general population of the Rotterdam area. Who goes where? PhD defence: 18 oct 2023 https://pure.eur.nl/en/publications/testing-for-sexually-transmitted-infections-in-the-general-popula
My work was especially focused on two large monitoring studies designed to give insight in the actual state of sexual health in the Netherlands: • Sex under the age of 25 (Dutch representative study on the sexual health of young people aged 12 to 25) • Sexual health in the Netherlands (Dutch representative sample for people aged 18 to 80) In addition to these monitoring studies I worked on: • Several sexological care registrations • Literature review for the ‘Gender Alliance’ • Needs assessment Flag System in different European countries (tool for identifying (un)acceptable sexual behavior of children and young people)
• Statistical analysis; calculate HIV testing rate after HIV indicator condition diagnosis in medical records • Publication: Twisk DE, Joore IK, van Bergen JEAM. Improving early HIV diagnosis, treatment and care in Europe with healthcare provider specific HIV indicator condition list and audits. Sex Transm Infect. 2017;93;582.
• Department of Infectious Diseases (Team of Infectious Diseases, Research and Prevention). • A study to gather more insight in HPV latency using data from the "HIV and HPV in MSM (H2M)" prospective cohort study - in which around 800 participants are enrolled. • Title Master thesis: Detection of incident anal high-risk HPV-DNA in MSM without anal sexual exposure: an indication for reactivation? • After internship, in spare time: refine analyses and additional analyses to publish my master internship research. • Publication: Twisk DE, van der Sande MAB, van Eeden A, Heideman DAM, van der Klis FRM, de Vries HJC, Schim van der Loeff MF. Detection of Incident Anal High-Risk HPV-DNA in MSM: Incidence or Reactivation? J Infect Dis. 2018, jiy276
• Centre for Infectious Diseases, Epidemiology and Surveillance - Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases. • Investigated the incidence of HIV indicator conditions in primary care reported in medical records prior to HIV diagnosis. • Title Bachelor thesis: HIV indicator conditions in general practice in the Netherlands: provider-initiated HIV testing for early case-finding. • Publication: Joore IK, Twisk DE, Vanrollegem AM et al. The need to scale up HIV indicator condition-guided testing for early case-finding: a case-control study in primary care. BMC Fam Prac. 2016;17(1):161.
