Delores Kannas, RN MSN MHA, is an experienced project manager, clinical research nurse and critical care nurse. Ms. Kannas has primarily worked in academic medical centers in San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Seattle. She is a Clinical Research Nurse in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. Previously from March 2019 through August 2020, Ms. Kannas worked as the Clinical Research Nurse & Patient Navigator at the EndBrainCancer Initiative (EBCI), www.EndBrainCancer.org. The EndBrainCancer Initiative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the existing gap to advanced treatment and clinical trial participation and to providing HOPE to brain tumor patients and their families nationally. From April 2017 to July 2018, she worked as the Clinical Nurse Compliance Specialist at Philips Healthcare. Ms. Kannas worked as the Trauma Research Project Manager at the University of Washington (UW) Clinical Trials Center, Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC) for 7 years coordinating multi-center clinical trials initiated in the prehospital setting with traumatically injured patients at 20 trauma centers throughout the United States and Canada. Ms. Kannas has co-authored several peer reviewed research articles. Prior to her position at the UW Clinical Trials Center, she practiced for 20 years in the Trauma Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle WA, the only Level One Trauma Center in the 5-state area of Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WAMI). Preceding Harborview, Ms. Kannas practiced as a critical care nurse and nurse manager while working in several academic medical centers. She obtained a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California San Francisco in 1978 and a Master’s in Healthcare Administration from the University of Washington in 2009.
Project manager for trauma research using emergency exception from informed consent design for RCT's in the prehospital setting for the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC), a multi-center data collection center for the United States and Canada with funding through the National Institute of Health and Department of Defense.Current trial is phase 2 use of tranexamic acid vs placebo in TBI given by paramedics upon arrival at injury scene and continued with 2nd 8 hour infusion in-hospital. Primary outcome is 6 month GOSE and neurologic outcome interview assessment.Involves 20 level 1 & 2 trauma centers thru out US & Canada. Responsible for all aspects of project implementation including procurement & distribution logistics, regulatory compliance, data collection and medical records compliance.
Manager overseeing operations with 45 employees serving the patient care areas in the hospital and clinics with inventory and distribution of medical supplies and equipment. Implemented lean strategies to eliminate waste and improve efficiencies using innovative JIT logistic strategies to insure the right supplies were available to the clinicians at the right time in the right amount. Interfaced with procurement services as clinical liaison for products value anaylsis and group purchasing contracts. Harborview Medical Center is a 420 bed tertiary care academic medical center affliated with the University of Washington. It is the only Level One Trauma Center in a four-state region serving Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. It provides over a third of the state's charity care while services the population of King County as well.
