I make final legal decisions for child exclusion hearings. This usually happens due to repeated accounts of disturbed behaviour in the school setting. For my role of chairing exclusion panels, there are a few important steps: Collating all of the available information about a child being considered for exclusion, and requesting more information or documentation where applicable. I need to be sure, on the balance of probabilities, that the disturbing behaviours occurred and that they were severe. Assessing the legal ramifications: particularly if there are legal concerns surrounding special educational needs or if there are specific circumstances in which an exclusion is being requested. Holding the panel which consists of two governors from other schools (one being the chair), usually a headteacher from another school, a clerk (and the headteacher of the school in question, the SENDCo, the parents of the child in question and the child). Questions from the local authority are posed and further inquiry is made by the panel. Adjournment and final decision: the chair announces the final decision and this decision is disseminated in-writing to all parties. Appeal: the chair will go before an appeal if the decision is contested by the parents.
Involves regular meetings to discuss financial points of interest, the developments in educational styles and approaches at the school and also what grievances or concerns may have arisen. Also involves 'monitoring' which requires a governor to go into the school to observe a certain part of school life, from lessons to assemblies.
Hold NEDs to account and also pay attention to individual cases that often arise in a hospital setting. Consider and assess NED management of situations like injuries, deaths and the overall functionality of the hospital. This is a space for accountability and also respect for the world-class work of consultants within the trust.
Involved with holding Non-Executive Directors to account. Also have specific days where governors spend time in the hospital speaking with staff and patients. Assessment of different parts of the hospital are sometimes required to assess that standards are met. Governors are voted in and I am in the second year, of my three year term.
Governor representative who holds the NEDs to account. My focus on this board is that everything in the hospital (tech based) is functioning to the highest standard, and that the best/most affordable software and hardware is being used. I am also passionate about cybersecurity to protect patient and staff privacy.
Developed a strong interest in commodity trading and achieved 100% for portfolio rationale when managing a simulated global macro, multi-asset, Hedge Fund portfolio of £20mil. Applying a manual stop-loss of £500,000, never allocating more than £5mil to any one investment and keeping to the requested portfolio weighting (50% equity, 30% commodities and 20% fixed income). Also scored 95% for buy-side risk management. • Scored 9th/105 participants, for a Hedge Fund management simulation, involving making trades through other interns in the market-making division, following the markets through a range of breaking news releases and hedging trade choices effectively. • Constructed commodity trading documents for my classmates with data about areas of specific interest e.g. important market-related locations in Iran, and the potential cost of a blockade at the Strait of Hormuz (during Iranian/Israeli tensions).
I was involved in articles, radio shows, engaging with children's content at Christmas and actively educated about sight-loss and sight-loss recovery. The Royal National Institute of Blind People supported me throughout 10 years of visual impairment. It has been a pleasure to give back. My role came to an end once I fully recovered from sight loss. There are many ambassadors, who are currently living with sight loss and their stories are profound. To connect with the RNIB and to learn more, do visit www.RNIB.org.uk.
Four times published author. My works have been published in the Wellcome Collection of Science and Medicine, acclaimed by Cambridge University Professors and I was invited to speak at the Royal College of Surgeons. Featured on BBC Radio and held a talk at Guy’s Campus, King’s College, London. Main publications focussed on psycho-social concerns regarding 'Gen Z'. Covering misinformation, mental illness, and family breakdown. The series was a result of an observational research project which I began at 7 years-old and completed at 21. It focuses on English youth and their development, irrespective of financial background.
