Intern who worked on the psychiatry consultation-liaison service, general assessment clinic, outpatient psychotherapy service, emergency department behavioral health team, primary care behavioral health team, and pediatric neuropsychology service.
Conducted and scored neuropsychological assessments, assisted with report writing, and assisted with providing feedback to families and clients.
Provided supervised consultation/liaison services in a children's hospital as needed. Worked in a hematology/oncology clinic, meeting with patients and their families to provide mental health services. Worked with families in patients in a endocrinology (primarily diabetes) clinic to increase treatment adherence and quality of life. Provided outpatient psychotherapy to clients with various mental and physical conditions.
The Newly Diagnosed Pediatric Cancer study is looking at youth and young adults diagnosed with cancer in the past year, along with caregivers, to determine the impact of a new cancer diagnosis. Symptoms of various psychological disorders, as well as quality of life, are being examined. Coordinated RA availability to match patient availability. Tracked patients to determine eligibility and potential availability to participate in the study. Converted a database from Microsoft Excel to SPSS using Visual Basic. Maintained SPSS and Microsoft Access databases for tracking patients and entering data. Coordinated with another study to allow patients to participate in one study followed by the other. Worked with an undergraduate research assistant to develop data management skills, and to provide mentoring regarding the mental health field and professions.
Received training on various neuropsychological assessment tools. Worked with youth under the direct supervision of Dr. Scott Hunter. Utilized custom-designed assessment batteries with youth of diverse backgrounds and with a wide array of medical and cognitive challenges. Scored and interpreted results of assessments, and wrote findings with recommendations in reports. Participated in weekly didactic training on neuropsychological and neuroanatomical topics, including giving presentations. Summarized clients in group supervision, and received feedback regarding how to effectively communicate client performance and appropriate recommendations.
