My name is Dawn Maria Roy. I am a OD Candidate for class of 2029. Additionally, I am interested in education and hope to close the barriers that exist within the field. My passion for both education and healthcare has encouraged me to pursue both fields in a way that is helpful to the community as well as myself.
- Check patients in and out for visits - Perform routine checks for patients including autorefraction, digital imaging of the retina, visual field test, and tonometry - Maintain a clean office environment - Verify patient insurance information and eligibility -Answer phone calls and emails as needed - Schedule appointments online - enhanced office flow by introducing a software connection from the devices to the patient chart directly
• Teaching undergraduate students the fundamentals of biology with specificity in genetics and microbiology • Teaching ambitious high school students an intro level Biology course in accordance with the College Now program • Duties include preparing lectures, labs, assignments, exams, and quizzes. • Courses: BIO 238 (Lab), BIO 173 (Lecture and Lab), BIO 181 (Lecture), BIO 230 (Lab)
• Manage set up for laboratory classes for Genetics, Human Biology, and Comparative Anatomy of Vertebrates. • Skilled in working with laboratory-related apparatus and preparing and storing necessary materials.
• Spread ideas and educational practices to students of many different backgrounds and majors. • Assist Dr. Henning with supporting and evaluating over 100 students. • Advised students during my own office hours and created platforms in which questions and ideas were encouraged.
• Proposed proclamations for awareness of lung cancer to many municipalities in Alaska. • Participated in outreach to local hospitals, clinics, and businesses about ALCSI posters and informational outlets. • Collaborated with other students from various universities and colleges to spread awareness of lung cancer in Alaska,Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, and California.
• Support Dr. Robilotto and Dr. Zikos with patient care and follow up for patients enrolled in active studies. • Aided in obtaining patient information, performing visual acuity tests, and garnering data for analysis. • Utilized knowledge of optometric procedures and protocols to interpret patient success and interpret research data. • Maintained strong adherence to standard research protocols while interacting with patients and colleagues. • Studies involved in: Johnson and Johnson multifocal contact lenses for astigmatism; Orthokeratology Lens Materials Study
• Assist in rooming patients and discharging patients. Involved in taking specimens for further laboratory tests. • Create appointments for different providers, help with paperwork for patients, assist in procedures such as biopisies. • Involved in many different departments including but not limited to Primary Care/ Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, and Cardiology.
