At Showpad Davy Van Den Steen is currently part of the Data Platform team, where he uses his in-depth cloud knowledge to mature and build out the Showpad Data Platform based upon AWS technologies like AWS LakeFormation, AWS Glue, AWS Athena. In the past Davy was part of the CloudOps team where his responsibilities were twofold: On the one hand he was responsible for all central cloud components such as a shared Kubernetes cluster as well as various other shared cloud components like Gitlab CICD, central networking, governance controls, ... On the other hand he was also responsible for the cloud enablement of all teams (both engineering as non-engineering) within Showpad. This entailed internal consulting as an AWS Solution Architect with teams on their needs and wants, marrying this with the non-functional requirements to result in an actionable and pragmatic cloud architecture which is in-line with the broader cloud architecture of Showpad. Davy Van Den Steen was also part of the Kernel Team where he was enabling both external and internal developers to work more efficiently and effectively. He was doing this by providing foundational services like centralized authentication and file-processing. These services use Kubernetes, Istio and Docker, are deployed on AWS and are written in Golang. Davy Van Den Steen was also in a leading role during the development of Showpad AppsDB, an offline-first syncing datastore usable for external developers with both native-mobile and Javascript clients. This datastore is based on Serverless technologies: AWS Lambda and API Gateway, written in Golang. Lastly, Davy Van Den Steen is also heavily involved in a push towards full-stack, self-reliant, Devops teams. This by coaching teams and the development of common components in Terraform, Kubernetes and Gitlab CICD.
At De Persgroep Davy Van Den Steen is currently taking on the challenge of creating an entire Serverless mobile api for the AD mobile app. He's also laying the foundation to extend this api towards a true app platform for De Persgroep. This api is using AWS technologies together with the Serverless Framework, Typescript, NodeJS, Spring Boot & Java Davy Van Den Steen was also part of the team developing the De Morgen website. In this capacity he worked on the migration towards AWS and the refactoring of the architecture towards a micro-service-oriented one.
At Colruyt Group Davy is part of the Store Development team. This team is responsible for all software related to store functions: cash registers, stock management, location management, product placing, … Davy spearheads several projects in an agile way, taking on the role of scrum master. He is also a senior full stack developer on these projects, working with both Angular and Java EE.
