Sharp-angled post-punk disco With one foot planted in the David Byrne era and the other in the underground post-punk scene of the 80s, Lézard stands as a chameleon, not just any lizard but one that defies the laws of nature. Frontman Neil Claes, accompanied by four formidable musicians, delivers a colorful and multi-layered set at a fluctuating tempo, drawing influences from XTC, Talking Heads, and contemporary post-punk acts. Their geometric and danceable sound is complemented by projections of digitally processed analog images, resulting in a thunderous and energetic Gesamtkunstwerk.
Isaac Roux is the indie folk project of Louis De Roo. In 2023 he became a winner of De Nieuwe Lichting after ending up as a finalist in 2022' Humo's Rock Rally.
Portland is home to the late singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Portland is - also - the world of Jente Pironet. A musical prodigy with great storytelling ability and an impressive vocal range. And a loyal fan of Smith. Portland quickly transforms from a solo project by Pironet to a band with a clear DNA. Melancholic music, a soundtrack for strong emotions and important life moments. Dark and light, acoustic guitars and electronics, joy and sadness, Portland is constantly flirting with these contrasts. The songs take cues from British indie pop (see Elbow) and American indiefolk (see Bon Iver) but also take in the dreamy vibe of Fleetwood Mac and Beach House. Portland got noticed in Belgium's major music competitions (Humo's Rock Rally and De Nieuwe Lichting) shortly after its inception, and steamed straight to the stages of Rock Werchter (BE), Pukkelpop (BE), Eurosonic (NL) and The Great Escape (GB) with its debut album 'Your Colours Will Stain' (2019). The title of the sophomore album 'Departures' (2023) comes from the departures board at Brussels South. That train station was the starting point for quite a few trips to London. ISBELLS is the indie folk band led by Gaëtan Vandewoude. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2009, is considered a classic with international appeal and stands as one of the most successful Belgian indie folk albums on Spotify. Their beautiful track 'Dreamer' has accumulated approximately 80 million streams to date. Before the formation of Isbells, frontman Gaëtan Vandewoude was involved in various (post) rock bands. Isbells marked a shift toward a more introspective and intimate musical approach, resulting in a collection of melancholic indie folk songs. Themes of relationships, daydreams, and human vulnerabilities became recurring motifs in their music. Following their initial success, comparisons to artists like Nick Drake's intricate guitar work, Fleet Foxes' harmonious vocals, and the melancholic style of Bon Iver were inevitable. However, Isbells has carved out its unique category with its distinct sound, identity, and originality, driven by a passion for music and exceptional craftsmanship. Their repertoire features delicate vocals, acoustic guitars, well-balanced horns, subtle percussion, and electronic elements, creating a cohesive and familiar sound. Gaëtan Vandewoude assembled a talented group of musicians, including Chantal Acda, Christophe Vandewoude, Gianni Marzo, and Gerd Van Mulders, to bring his beautiful and fragile songs to life. Their new album, 'Basegemiti,' will be released on September 22, 2023 by V2 Records Benelux.
