  • Principal Airworthiness Engineer at Lilium
    Jun 2020 - Mar 2025 · 4 yrs 10 mos

Principal Airworthiness Engineer in the Office of Airworthiness, focused on Panel 1 Handling Qualities, Performance, Human Factors, and Flight Test, and Panel 4, Flight Control Systems. Responsible for managing ongoing activities with the certification authorities (EASA and FAA), and agreeing the certification basis and associated means of compliance (MOC) in accordance with EASA SC-VTOL. In addition, I was the Chair of Subgroup 4 ‘Flight’, in Eurocae Working Group 112 ‘VTOL’, tasked with developing industry-based ‘consensus’ standards and MOC for SC-VTOL. As Editor of specific standards, I was at the epicentre of developing the foundations of eVTOL certification in Europe for the industry as a whole, for decades to come. And in addition, as Manager of Autonomy Certification, I also led early discussions with EASA on the future of autonomous operations and probable integration of Artificial Intelligence in aircraft systems, in accordance with the EASA AI Roadmap.

The role in the Air Navigation Bureau is focused on aircraft operations, airworthiness, and aviation safety, spanning multiple technical and procedural areas working in coordination with State authorities, regulators, air operators, aircraft manufacturers and more. Specific tasks include leading the development of new standards and guidance for safety risk assessments for the transport of cargo and dangerous goods, Secretary lead for the Instrument Flight Procedures Panel (IFPP), and investigating solutions for the registration and identification of unmanned aircraft and small drones, facilitating global Unmanned Aircraft Traffic Management (UTM) initiatives. • Founder at BikeParkPRO & WorldBikeParks.com
    Jan 2014 - Mar 2020 · 6 yrs 3 mos

Founder and Director of a mobile tech startup for a GPS-based mobile app, fostering a natural entrepreneurial mindset. Initially bootstrapped, additional capital was raised to fund growth. Established an initial user community and achieved both B2B and B2C sales in over ten different countries around the world. Set up partnership contracts/sponsorship with major international brands in the cycling industry and with major ski mountain resorts. No longer operational due to many reasons - execution, finance, demands of a primary aerospace career! However, I still benefited from considerable real-world startup experience and lessons learned. It demanded creativity, technical innovation, and data-driven decision making, with a continual focus on the end-user experience.

  • Lead Flight Test Engineer at Bombardier Aerospace
    Nov 2011 - Sep 2016 · 4 yrs 11 mos

Flight test team for the C-Series aircraft programme (now the Airbus A220), certified to Transport Canada, FAA and EASA Part 25. Took the Lead FTE position for Flight Test Vehicle 1, and was responsible for managing the team through initial ground and flight test activities. This included Telemetry Lead for “first flight”, and for subsequent initial high-risk handling qualities and envelope expansion flights, in combination with an on-board FTE role. The position required both technical and management competencies, with continual planning and support of test activities on multiple aircraft and flight simulators, with a focus on flight control laws, handling qualities, and systems integration. A high pressure environment with challenging timescales, the role required constant composure to ensure progression was achieved without compromising safety.
