As leading engineer of the Puppet Developer Experience Team, I am ultimately responsible for the design and implementation of the PDK (https://puppet.com/blog/develop-modules-faster-new-puppet-development-kit), a developer tool, which cuts important customer workflows from days to minutes. The main tool is implemented in Ruby, and integrates a number of open source projects from the puppet community, starting with various linters for puppet, and unit testing based on RSpec. The PDK is working on Windows, OS-X, and Linux, with native WIX/MSI, DMG, YUM/RPM, and APT/DPKG installers. Additional responsibilities include code reviews using git/github, building and executing automated tests using Travis-CI and Appveyor for unit and integration testing, mentoring, driving continuous process improvement, Kanban, communicating project status to key stakeholders within the company, and responding to feedback from the open source and customer community.

    • Senior Software Engineer
      Apr 2015 - Dec 2016 · 1 yr 9 mos

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Modules Team, I was responsible for adding new features, maintenance, and open source community cooperation on the supported puppet modules: https://forge.puppet.com/supported . This included programming in Ruby, and the Puppet language, building automated tests, and code reviews. It required working with a wide range of supported technologies and products: apache, apt, aws, azure, IPTables firewalls, mysql, ntp, postgresql, and vsphere. Additional responsibilities included code reviews using git/github, building and executing automated tests using Travis-CI, Appveyor, and Jenkins for unit and integration testing, mentoring, driving continuous process improvement, Kanban, and responding to feedback from the open source and customer community.

As a co-founder my responsibilities range from basic business decisions to customer contact to designing, programming and deploying the solutions. Our main product was a C#/WPF-based database solution backed by either MS-SQL Server, or PostgreSQL. As this was a two-person project, we shared responsibilities across the entire stack, from the UI, the middleware, to the database. Thanks to a rigorous testing strategy, we never had a down-time at a customer through our regular deployments.
