This City of Las Vegas project includes the demolition of the existing obsolete facility and new construction of a 75 bed 26,000 sq. ft. medical respite facility that will include state-of-the-art patient rooms and clinical rooms serving low-income homeless and unhoused individuals including primary care and general healthcare services helping individuals recover from acute injury and illness. The existing 40-bed Recuperative Care Center (“RCC”) facility is owned by the City of Las Vegas and operated by Hope Christian Health Center. The Recuperative Care Center was established by the City of Las Vegas in the summer of 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and designed to serve individuals who are recovering from an acute illness/injury where the lack of acuity no longer justifies continued hospitalization. Illness/injury is generally exacerbated by an individual’s return to homelessness due to the lack of consistent access to appropriate shelter that would allow for a complete return to health and well-being. The newly constructed RCC will provide similar medical respite services with 75 bed capacity, providing medical care 24/7, safe-shelter, meals/snacks, case management and other stabilization services to individuals experiencing homelessness who are too frail for the streets but are not ill enough to remain in hospital after pre/postsurgical procedures. RCC’s primary goal is (and will continue to be) to stabilize patient’s medical conditions, enabling them to recover and transition back to more permanent housing and maintain access to healthcare and other supportive services needed to thrive. As vulnerable and valued members of the community, RCC seeks to provide dignity and high quality healthcare to everyone, despite their background. The City of Las Vegas will continue to own the facility and it is anticipated that the new RCC will continue to be operated by Hope Christian Health Center.
