"Everything". That was always my answer to the age-old question "What do you want to do when you grow up?". I could imagine myself becoming a teacher, a painter, an astronomer, you name it! But it was my constant need to understand the world around me led that me down the path of science. That is why I became a PharmD and then challenged myself with a PhD (and what a challenge it was). Not only did I learn about parasites, drugs, vaccines, molecular biology, just to name a few topics, but I also became a much more competent professional. Every day I solved new problems, optimized procedures, dreamed about exciting questions, collaborated with dozens of people from all walks of life, passed on the knowledge I had accumulated, juggled a myriad of different tasks and projects, and co-wrote >10 papers and even a book chapter. I grew more than I ever thought was possible. I'm currently interested in expanding my knowledge of infectious diseases and immunology using zebrafish. I also enjoy traveling, sports, books, video games and casual language learning.

Designed, planned, conducted and analyzed experiments to genetically manipulate and phenotype the malaria parasite; Trained and mentored PhD and MSc students.
Managed and executed an ambitious research project aiming to identify novel antigens for a malaria vaccine; Developed/optimized and published 3 innovative methods; Collaborated with multiple national and international partners in varied research fields; Co-wrote 10 scientific articles and a book chapter; Disseminated the results in 1 international and 4 national meetings; Taught practical classes at the University of Porto for 3 years.
Conducted preclinical efficacy and safety evaluation for 2 EU-funded international consortia.
