Motivated and results driven professional with 20+ years of experience in Cloud and Datacenter systems supporting multiple vendor technologies including Microsoft Azure, Cisco, F5, and PaloAlto amongst others in the areas of designing, support and administration. Effective teamwork skills, stakeholder relation skills and documentation are all combined with my IT technical expertise. Goal is to enhance knowledge of Cloud systems, and networking skillsets by progressing into specialist roles.
Lead and mentor a team of engineers to deliver a secure, scalable, and well-governed Microsoft Azure platform that underpins critical business services. Provide technical direction and remove blockers to enable the team’s success, while making key decisions on platform strategy and design. Establish consistent Infrastructure as Code practices (Terraform, PowerShell, AzCLI) to ensure automation, repeatability, and long-term maintainability. Partner with stakeholders to align cloud initiatives with business priorities, strengthening resilience, compliance, and innovation.
First 12 months was getting hybrid and cloud foundations architectured and built, and bespoke workloads moved from onprem to Cloud. More recently, have been embedded in CICD processes, automation, DEVOPS, Pipelines, using various tool chains across Azure product suites.
The National Electricity Market Operator incorporates the management of the National Electricity Market (NEM) retail and wholesale electricity markets of eastern and southern Australian regions along with overseeing the system security of the NEM electricity grid. The NEMMCO IT network requires extreme high availability support to allow full recovery times within 5 minutes of any network glitch. 99.999% availability of the network has been achieved on a 24x7x365 basis. Working as part of an 7 man team, I was employed to design, configure, analyze and manage all aspects of the companies WAN, MAN, LAN and VOIP environments. Technical Skills Networks: IPv4 and IPv6, Routing Protocols (EIGRP, IGRP, OSPF, RIP, BGP), LAN, WAN, MAN, NAT, VOIP, QOS, Multicast, IPSEC & SSL VPN, TACACS+, RADIUS, Wireless Hardware: Cisco Routers - Branch, WAN and Service Provider models. Cisco Switches – Datacenter, Core, Distribution and Access layer models including Nexus 9K, 7K, 5K, and 2k. Accomplishments: • Implemented Cisco PIX devices to secure all edges to the LAN. • Configure VPN connectivity for multiple remote clients. • Design and Implement the routing protocol EIGRP to replace OSPF globally. • Core infrastructure redesign for the IP multicast WAN. The redesign included the use of advanced Cisco features such as Rapid Spanning Tree, Anycast multicast server addresses, advanced EIGRP design solution, and complete redundancy throughout the whole network so that all clients will maintain a 99.999% connection rate. • Designed and Implemented dual circuit configurations for completed redundancy throughout the entire WAN. • Investigated solutions to reduce the annual business costs incurred by SFE. • Relocated the LAN and WAN core infrastructure to a new datacenter with no service disruption to clients. • Negotiation with equipment vendors and communications carriers to achieve cost effective solutions.
