Queensland Police Service: Sworn into the Service in 1995 and retired in 2022. Criminal Investigator Most of my career was in criminal investigations. Attained the rank of Detective Senior Sergeant and served as the Officer in Charge of a regional Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) office with 23 staff. I brought extensive experience and leadership to the role. I directly managed complex investigative processes, ensured adherence to legal and procedural standards, and provided expert guidance and support to my team. Project Management - QPS: In my last 2 years of sworn service (2020-2022), I was seconded to Police Communications. I was the project manager for a business optimisation project to improve functionality, capability and capacity of the state-wide Police communications network. Project success achieved with approval of the Commissioner of Police to consolidate Police Communication Centres into fully networked hubs. Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) 2022 – 2023: Principal Investigation (AO7) - After retiring from the QPS I took a contract with QFES Internal Investigations Unit. My role included conducting investigations and case managing serious allegations concerning the conduct of staff and volunteers in accordance statutory obligations under the Crime and Corruption Act 2001 and the Public Interest Disclosure framework. QPS - Right to Information Unit: In 2023, I attained a full-time role as a Principal Right to Information Officer. I manage and mentor a team of Decision Makers. Processing complex Right to Information and Information Privacy applications. Researching complex legal and policy issues associated with information access applications impacting the operations of the Queensland Police Service. Upon taking up this role, I was tasked to review application and processing procedures. My review identified opportunities to optimise processes through the creation of an application initial assessment team. I was given the task to establish this team and embed the associated processes into existing procedures. The implementation of this process has significantly reduced workloads on decision makers and substantially improved client service delivery. Marine Rescue Queensland (MRQ): I am currently seconded to MRQ as a Senior Programs Officer in the Project Management Office (PMO). My role includes volunteer and stakeholder engagement contributing to the current MRQ transition project.
As the Manager of the Assessment and Support Team, I oversee the initial assessment of applications made to the QPS under Right to Information (RTI) and Information Privacy (IP) legislation. I created this role after I undertook a thorough process improvement review, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing efficiency and effectiveness within the workplace. My responsibilities include allocating applications to appropriately experienced decision-makers, identifying opportunities to divert applications to alternate access schemes, and researching complex legal and policy issues associated with information access applications that impact the operations of the Queensland Police Service.
