New Orleans, Louisiana, United States
I was born with, what is called in layman's terms, an organic brain dysfunction. It retards motor skills in both speech and body movement. As a result, I have been ridiculed for a large portion of my life. On March 1, 1969, I experienced a drastic but wonderful change in my life. I encountered a man who told me that I was a sinner, and needed Jesus Christ in my life. I thought his approach was harsh, but then he began to explain to me that all people are sinners, and that all people need Jesus; and that he loved me enough to tell me so. I repented of my sin and asked Jesus Christ to be my Lord and Savior. Three years later, I was called to preach and was told that I should seek education. Because of my handicaps, I sought help with education from a government office in my state. They told me that I could not be educated, and offered to send me to a group home. I declined the offer, and applied to be a student at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. I graduated with an Associates degree two years later. Three years later I got a BS degree at Hannibal Lagrange College. And in 2008, I got an MS degree from Missouri State University. This degree, was in Counseling, the same degree as the person who told me I could not be educated. Attended New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary to work and earn a Master of Divinity degree with a Concentration in Urban Missions. I graduated December 17, 2016. Currently pursuing DMin. degree at NOBTS. In January, 2016, I became Pastoral Intern of Gentilly Baptist Church of New Orleans, La. I have recently been endorsed by the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention and will begin January 1st as an Evangelism Catalyst with SendNewOrleans through Gentilly Baptist Church in New Orleans.
