After completing a University Degree in Information Technology (Maths Science), I worked in the IT industry for 10 years, whilst playing League football for Port Adelaide Football Club in the SANFL. In 1996, I moved from working in IT Administration/Management to working in Football Management. I worked in a range of roles for more than 17 years at both state and national level within the SA football community. For over 5 years, I managed a diverse range of successful and highly regarded Community Engagement programs for the SANFL, developing strong relationships with many Government, Community and Corporate stakeholders. In late 2013, I commenced work with Sammy D Foundation - a great not-for-profit organisation delivering education, training and support to young people across SA. We aim to encourage and empower young people to reach their maximum life potential, and to make safe and positive life choices. This role fitted well with my background in Community Development, Sport & Recreation Management, Project Management & Administration. Check out the website for more details about the Foundation: www.sammydfoundation.org.au Whilst still involved with the Foundation, I moved into Project Consultancy/Management work in July, 2015. This has been a great time of experience and further developing skills, working with SCOSA (Spastic Centre of SA), and doing some short-term work with Sammy D Foundation and Port Adelaide FC. In December 2015, I'm excited to be commencing a new role as CEO of Rowing SA, based at West Lakes. In addition to my work career, I was co-opted to the Board of SportSA in early 2013, and to the Board of Baptist Care Foundation in early 2014. I have been involved in Youth Work voluntarily for many years, holding the position of Chairman at Gateway Baptist Church & Community Centre for over 12 years. I am also a White Ribbon Ambassador, supporting this fantastic organisation tackling the important community issue of violence against women.
I have returned to working at the Port Adelaide Football Club after being away in a variety of other roles over the past 12 years. This new diverse role - Stakeholder Relations Manager, is responsible for engaging/re-engaging with a range of key stakeholder groups, programs and new projects associated with the famous and proud Club. that I have grown up with! The groups I am working with include Past Players & Officials, Life Members, Hall of Famers, Volunteers, Corporate Partners & Coterie Groups, and I'm also assisting with a number of key events and match day activities, whilst supporting the Port Adelaide Forever Bequest Program and Port Club/Museum redevelopment project, kicking off later in 2020!
Rowing SA (RSA) is the peak body for rowing in South Australia. RSA promotes the interests of the rowing community in SA, and provides advocacy and representation on behalf of its member clubs and schools. The CEO is responsible for the provision of administration, project management, staff management, strategic and day to day operational functions of the organisation. This includes Events, Competitions, Promotional & Development programs, Talent pathways, Facilities management, Finance, Marketing and Membership services.
Various Project consultancy work at SCOSA, including: - a review of Client Transport Logistics and Activities - National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Readiness Project Have also undertaken a number of other short-term projects through this time with the Sammy D Foundation and Port Adelaide Football Club.
The Sammy D Foundation was founded in June 2008, following the tragic events that resulted in the loss of 17 year old Sam Davis' life - an innocent victim of an unprovoked one-punch incident. Sam's parents, Neil Davis and Nat Cook, founded the Sammy D Foundation, with the ultimate aim of providing skills to young people in order to prevent such a tragedy from happening in our community again. The Foundation has grown significantly in recent years as a not-for-profit organisation delivering education, training and support to young people across SA. The Foundation has reached over 25,000 young people, encouraging and empowering them to reach their maximum life potential, and to make safe and positive life choices. My role is to help the Foundation continue its growth and reach across our state and beyond, maximizing the number of young people's lives that we can positively impact, with the support of Corporate, Community and Government partnerships.
Working for the peak body managing Australian Football in South Australia - responsible for all junior development and game development programs and strategies across the state. Key areas of responsibility include participation programs and staff management, Aboriginal programs in both metropolitan and remote areas, and management of Diversity and Inclusive programs for young people (multicultural, disadvantaged youth and disability sector). Partnered with a wide range of stakeholders, including Government, Corporate and Community groups to develop a number of highly-regarded football and healthy-lifestyle programs.
