As a UAS Inspector, my responsibilities encompass a range of regulatory and oversight activities. I am tasked with issuing, amending, suspending, limiting, or revoking certificates of competency for remote pilots, operational authorisations, and Light UAS Operator Certificates (LUCs). I verify the completeness of operational declarations and manage the creation and maintenance of UAS Geographical Zones and associated Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP) entries. My role involves conducting risk-based oversight and audits of UAS operators, recognised entities, model clubs, associations, and economic operators for market surveillance. I investigate incidents of non-compliance by various UAS operators and recognised entities. Additionally, I maintain records and reports concerning UAS operations and provide critical information and support to UAS operators, including safety promotion, regulation clarification, policy announcements, technical information, and accident details. I advise the UAS Manager on specific and general UAS matters, provide technical support to other departments, and engage in periodic meetings with industry stakeholders. My role also includes exercising corrective actions to ensure compliance, offering technical advice for safety standards and regulation development, representing the UAS Manager when required, and providing on-the-job training to other UAS Inspectors. I assist with market surveillance functions, perform checks on Class Identified UAS characteristics, and maintain a database of economic operators. I coordinate with other State Market Surveillance Authorities and Customs, and actively participate in the EU Commission UAS Administrative Cooperation Group. Serve as a subject matter expert and inspector for Dangerous Goods in accordance with the ICAO Technical Instructions which help contribute to aviation safety.
