Being a model teacher I help other school in our cluster to better improve the way they conduct their professional development within their schools. I also help host when other teachers and administrators come to our school to observe how we conduct our professional development.
I represent all of the teaching staff, plus the guidance counselor and the school secretary. I hold monthly school meetings informing staff of their rights and of issues relating to the board of education. I also attend monthly chapter leader meetings in order to educate myself on what the union is doing and what to inform our members about.
I teach at a transfer high school in Brooklyn. A transfer high school is a specialized high school for over-aged, under credited students looking to regain credits. Students at our school can earn up to seven more credit per year than a regular high school. It is an intense atmosphere where we motivate students who have never been motivated in their educational careers.
I taught at MS 326, a middle school in Washington Heights. This was a challenging situation where I taught general ed., special ed., and bilingual students. I had to be creative teaching students of a different culture about American History.
