About

Dr. Madoff is Professor of Radiology, Medical Oncology and Surgical Oncology, Vice Chair for Clinical Research and Section Chief of Interventional Radiology at Yale School of Medicine. He is an internationally-recognized expert in Interventional Oncology, a subspecialty within Interventional Radiology (IR) that offers patients with various forms of cancer minimally invasive curative, adjuvant and palliative treatment options. His clinical interests are wide-ranging and include visceral vascular, hepatobiliary and genitourinary interventions, various embolotherapy and percutaneous biopsy techniques and many specialized Interventional Oncology therapies. In particular, Dr. Madoff is world-renowned for his research on preoperative portal vein embolization, a technique used to improve the safety of major hepatic resection. This technique, based on the liver’s ability to regenerate, is used in patients with liver cancer to increase the size of the anticipated liver remnant before surgery. Without this procedure, many patients with potentially resectable disease would not be eligible for curative resection. Dr. Madoff also treats cancer patients with transarterial and ablative approaches in the liver and other organ systems such as lung, kidney and bone. Dr. Madoff is a leader in academic radiology and is an invited speaker at numerous national and international meetings. He authored or co-authored over 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles, has written more than 30 book chapters and served as co-editor of four textbooks. Dr. Madoff served as Deputy Editor for RADIOLOGY and the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology and is currently co-Editor-in-Chief of Digestive Disease Interventions. He currently serves on editorial boards of Techniques of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Seminars in IR, Cancer Biology and Medicine, Chinese Clinical Oncology and Current Oncology Reports. He serves as a reviewer for many other scientific journals including The Lancet, PLoS One, Journal of Hepatology, Surgery and Urology. Dr. Madoff served in many intra- and extramural leadership roles and received many honors and awards for his contributions.
