Senior Design Engineer
Working in the European global design centre, developing new products, for retail world wide. Involved in taking new products from concept through to product manufacturing implementation. Develop concept models and ideas to generate world class innovative products and process. Responsible for all the mechanical design aspects of a product. Throughout the development process utilising a wide range of processes and skills. Using CATIA V5 to generate 3D surface and solid models, complex assemblies and detail 2D drawings. Undertaking any design calculations, stress and CFD analysis. Develop the product whilst interacting with other functions including test engineers, model makers, industrial design, intellectual property, RP companies, suppliers, electrical engineers, packaging and marketing. Responsible for planning, testing, and liaison with manufacturing sites through out the project to ensure hand over is as smooth as possible. Attend builds at the manufacturing plants in China, as well as leading design reviews, being involved in FMEA, market research and controlling all relevant documentation including design specifications .. Working in two main product groups, home products and outdoor. Responsible for numerous patents applications whilst at B&D of which 17 have been granted and others awaiting final clearance.
Responsible for all new product developments in a company manufacturing electric vehicle controllers. Also involved in design alteration to existing products though on a lesser extent. Involved from initial concepts , product testing and production implementation. Responsible for introducing new concepts and manufacturing techniques to make the product more cost competitive and improving general engineered to withstand the working environment. Utilising various tools , such as rapid prototyping, 3D CAD design using SolidWorks to generate 3D assemblies and detail drawings Types of components designed includes CNC machined, die-cast, aluminium extrusions, stampings and injection moulded parts.
Design and development of new products for the drinks dispense industry. Primarily involved in site product development to generate new products, though similar in nature to existing products, with new design features or functionality improvements. Also involved in general value engineering projects. Utilising in the design process PRO-Engineer to creating 3D models, assemblies and 2D detail drawings.
