Very experienced in the writing of Work Instruction and Technical reports. Worked in research & development for over 25 years, projects included the development of injection technology at the steel ladle (lance and sliding gate), vacuum tundish casting, and steel flow visualisation at the casting tube. the 2 casting projects were part funded by Europe (ESCS) Part of a Teesside works Casting Team that won the Continuous Improvement Directors Award in 2007 for reducing significantly the number of Sequence Breaks due to Casting Tube Change (Alcar Gate) issues - saving of £2 Million per year. Involved in the early development (1977-1986) of deep lance ladle injection to (i) Ca treat and/or desulphurise liquid steel when producing line pipe steels at Teesside Works and Templeborough and (ii) add lead to produce leaded steels Winner of the Cleveland Institute of Engineers 'Windsor Richards Award' in 1988. Primarily working on the monitoring of the day to day Slab quality (ULC, low C, peritectic, high carbon, etc) and general casting issues. Steel output of approx 60KT per week. Main tasks included analysing and investigating both production and quality performance issues,(e.g. identifying reasons for poor internal quality), developing improved practices and running plant trials (often in conjunction with suppliers). Maintained quality assurance systems for the casting machines, including the generation of new quality codes and both internal and LQRA audits.
Training of new SSI Casting Plant& Finishing End production operators.
Preparing and delivering lectures on metallurgy, steelmaking and casting
